Plantar fasciitis, achilles tendinopathies and ankle ligament sprains are common problems of the foot and and ankle. Plantar fasciitis is a painful foot condition which is due to chronic degeneration or acute inflammation. This is a very common form of foot pain and numerous in runners and people over the age of 40. Ankle sprains commonly involve the outer ligaments of the foot or ankle.

MOST COMMON CAUSES OF ankle and foot pain

Plantar Fasciitis: repetitive activity, having flat feet, having an arch which is to high, tight or weak calves, occupations requiring prolonged standing and walking, Weight gain.

Ankle Sprains: Tightness in the calves , previous ankle sprains, inadequate warming up before exercise.

Other symptoms may include:

Sharp pain felt in the foot during first steps especially first thing in the morning.

Worse when weight bearing, walking up steps and running. 

Aggravated when not wearing supportive shoes and periods of inactivity.

Relieved by offloading the foot by sitting.

Sudden onset of pain after rolling over the foot.

Can be accompanied by a popping sound at the time of injury.

Worse with weight bearing.

Possible swelling and bruising.
