HIP PAIN

Osteoarthritis of the hip affects up to 33% of people, tends to be more prevalent in males and occurs more commonly with increasing age. Muscular strains around the hip are also very common; research suggests that a particular muscle called the piriformis accounts for one third of all back pain.

MOST COMMON CAUSES OF HIP OSTEOARTHRITIS

Age, Genetics, Obesity , Repetitive, Trauma, Occupations requiring prolonged standing.

MOST COMMON CAUSES OF HIP OSTEOARTHRITIS

Lower limb biomechanical problems
Morton’s foot ( longer second toe)
More prevalent in females between 40 -60
Injury such as a fall onto the buttocks
Muscular irritation from overuse such as prolonged walking or sitting
Walking difficulties and altered gait

HIP PAIN SYMPTOMS

Pain is often felt under the kneecap other symptoms may include:

Morning stiffness.

Stiffness following periods of inactivity.

Difficulty dressing, putting on socks and shaving.

Pain in the groin, thigh and buttock.

Pain increases with weight bearing.

Piriformis:
Pain and numbness in the buttock

Piriformis:
Radiating pain down the back of the thigh to the calf or heel
